Samsung plans to open a huge AI research facility in France

Project: New artificial intelligence research center

Investor: Samsung

Location: Paris, France

FDI Center’s view: Samsung already has a small AI research presence in France and intends to expand this to 100 researchers. This follows announcements by Google, Fujitsu and others that they plan to expand their AI activities in France. This reflects the tremendous growth in the commercial application of artificial intelligence in areas ranging from manufacturing technology to autonomous vehicles. There is huge demand for professionals with AI skills, and technology companies have been scrambling to establish research and development centers wherever pools of skills can be found around the world. At the same time, several countries including China, Canada, France and the UK are positioning themselves as leading locations for AI, with governments announcing huge funding programs for AI-related education and research.
