Business Sweden, the national trade and investment promotion agency of Sweden, has engaged FDI Center on multiple occasions to support its Global Investment Conference in Stockholm – a flagship event bringing together staff from its global offices and regional partners.
FDI Center's involvement spans three conference editions. In 2019, we delivered the keynote speech at the conference, setting the tone for the event with insights on global FDI trends and investment promotion best practices. Business Sweden subsequently engaged FDI Center to design and deliver dedicated full-day training programs at the 2023 and 2025 editions of the conference.
The objective of the training programs was to equip around 100 participants per edition with practical skills and new perspectives to strengthen investment attraction efforts, ensuring that the training was both inspiring and immediately applicable.
While the specific design and content evolved across the two editions to reflect the needs of participants at the time, FDI Center's work on the training programs included elements such as:
- developed a structured training agenda covering topics including global FDI trends, investor requirements, investment readiness, consultative investment attraction, and a key account approach for new investment attraction and aftercare.
- delivered interactive sessions combining presentations, practical exercises, polls, and structured discussions to ensure active participation.
- incorporated real-world examples from leading investment promotion agencies to illustrate best practices.
- facilitated moderated discussions with corporate representatives, providing participants with direct insights into investor decision-making and requirements.
- created a dynamic learning environment that balanced inspirational content with practical tools and approaches that participants could apply in their roles.
Across all three engagements, FDI Center has supported Business Sweden in strengthening the capabilities of its global investment promotion team and regional partners – equipping participants with fresh perspectives on FDI and practical approaches to improve investment attraction performance, while maximising the benefits of bringing its global staff together for a shared, in-person experience.
